proving that you belong

Every person on the planet faces the challenge of proving that they belong Some people have to prove that to themselves While others have to prove that to those around them. In my case, Because of my circumstances, I feel pressure to do that on a daily basis! Sometimes this pressure is no different than What other people think and is normally based on this situation. On the other hand most of the pressure I feel is placed on me Solely because I am different and It would not be placed on me otherwise! I can say with certainty that I am not the only person with a disability or the only person with different circumstances to experience this. Unfortunately, It is part of the price you pay for being different! Oftentimes I find myself in situations having to do double the work just to prove that I belong in order to achieve the same result. For example, I have had people assume that I should not be in the room because I did not look like belonged Whether I'm trying to go to college to improve my future or get a doctor to take me seriously The first thing I've always had to do is to prove to them that I'm not there by accident! Believe it or not, I accept that this is something I have to deal with but that does not mean I think it should be this way! It is acceptable to have to prove that you have certain Qualifications in order to be a doctor or a lawyer I am fine with that those standards should be rigorous! However, there's a very big difference between rigorous standards and having To prove your capabilities solely because you're different from everybody else! Regardless of The situation, I find myself having to do this I even had to prove to the government That I am capable of practicing safe sex! By contrast, there is no such requirement for able-bodied folks If there was I guarantee people would be screaming about civil rights violations But Since this only applies to disabled people nobody really cares all that much! To be fair, I do understand why that requirement is put in place depending on the circumstances a person may or may not be aware of how to do that That aside the government should not assume that none of us are! Additionally, they really should be more tactful in the way they approach the subject Not because I am uncomfortable but because I think my sex life has a right to remain private Unless my circumstances Clearly required appropriate intervention. My point is, I have to prove that I am capable of things that most people take for granted Simply because I am different! While I have learned to deal with this I know that I shouldn't have to As I said earlier, there is a big difference between proving you are qualified for a job and Proving that you belong as a full member of society Just because I don't look like the rest of you. That's the part that needs to change and I believe it is in the process of changing however, it's very slow and I can tell you from personal experience we have a long way to go!
